How’s it going? You’re two thirds of the way done with this (hopefully) life-changing month! I really hope you’re sticking with it and giving it your all.

If you’re having trouble sticking with it or giving it your all, today’s post will help because we’re going to talk about motivation.


WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION?

A lot of people have trouble staying motivated to make such a big change in their lives, so know that you are not alone in this. It took me years to change, too, and I was in nutrition school learning about all this!

So the most important thing you can do when you’re flipping your diet and lifestyle all upside down is to FIND YOUR MOTIVATION. 

THE WHY GAME

Why do you want to lose weight? 

  • Take a second and answer that question and then write it down.
  • Now look at what you wrote down and ask “why?” again.
  • Now look at that answer and ask “why” again.
  • Now look at that answer and ask “why” one more time. You can ask why as many times as you need to. 

It might look something like this:

Q: Why do I want to lose weight?

A: Because I want my butt to be smaller and to get rid of this fat on my belly.

 

Q: Why do I want a smaller butt and less belly fat?  

A: Because I feel embarrassed and self conscious of my size.

 

Q: Why am I embarrassed and self conscious?

A: Because I let myself down. I ate what I knew I should’ve have been eating, even though I felt sick doing it. I stopped exercising, even though I had plenty of time to do it.

 

Q: Why did I let myself down?

A: Because I don’t believe I deserve to feel good or beautiful.

 


EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT

This is just one example of how this might go. Everyone is different, obviously, but in this example, you see how you’re digging through layers. Finally you get to the bottom layer and there you have your motivation. Write that sucker down and keep it close.  

In this case, OF COURSE YOU DESERVE TO FEEL AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL!! Of course you do. We all do! Now when you are faced with the decision of binge-ing on cookies or NOT binge-ing on cookies, you will have that deep motivation to steady your hand. 

I strongly encourage you to go through that exercise and ask “why” as many times as you need to until you feel something move inside you. Not like that! 😉 But really move you in your soul. Something that will make you think twice when it’s you against the old habits.   

It’s from that place of grounded clarity that they can then make choices with integrity every day. 


Now just figure out once and for all why you’ve chosen this path so you never feel like a victim again when you “can’t” have something you once really wanted.

The motivation needs to be something YOU want. Not something someone else – or society for that matter – wants for you!
